OUR MISSION

Latinxs in Sustainability (LiS) is a non-profit organization with a mission to unite and empower Latinx-identifying sustainability leaders, including students and working professionals, to become change catalysts for their communities across the US.

THE CHALLENGE

Latinxs in Sustainability was founded out of an understanding that our current socioeconomic and political systems do not enable Latinx people to meaningfully lead and reap the benefits of most climate solutions. The median energy burden for Hispanic households is 20% higher than that for white households (ACEEE, 2020). In addition, Hispanic/Latinx workers represent nearly 17% of the clean energy workforce in comparison white workers at 60% (E2, 2021).

VISION

LiS envisions a sustainable future where the Latinx community is a leading voice in climate solutions. We strive for:

  • Inclusive Collaboration: Foster meaningful connections among Latinx students and professionals to facilitate mutual learning and community.

  • Leadership Empowerment: Provide Latinx talent with mentorship and career development resources, empowering members to reach their full potential.

  • Increased Representation: Highlight the impactful contributions of LiS members in addressing climate change, and advocate for increased Latinx recruitment and career growth into leadership positions to foster socioeconomic advancement.

Ultimately, we aim for climate solutions led by Latinx talent to be implemented and recognized at scale, ensuring Latinx communities benefit from a just green economy.
